For several years we’ve come together as a small group of 18th century historians to help each other write better papers. We call this the ‘4* Society’, and it’s a friendly, supportive group who pre-read papers each other are intending to submit for publication, and then spend time around a table critiquing them and offering targeted feedback to the author. We all receive and give feedback to the whole group.
Dr Adam Crymble and Dr Joe Cozens are hosting this year, and we have room for up to two early career scholars to join us. The event will be 19 February 2025 at UCL. Limited funding is available for domestic train travel and essential childcare costs (open to all parents, regardless of gender).
If you’d like to join us this year, please send Adam Crymble (a.crymble@ucl.ac.uk) a 200-word summary of the paper/chapter you’d like to receive feedback on, and why you’d like to participate in our workshop. Please note that we’re unable to accept active PhD students working on their thesis. Adam is happy to answer any informal questions. This is a friendly space, not a formal one.
